Biographical history

Ruth McBride Powers, nee Ruth Adella McBride, was born in St. Clair, Michigan, in 1903. She graduated from Stanford University. In 1926, she and Albert H. Powers were married. The couple moved to Coos County, Oregon, and they later had three children. She was a historian and helped to preserve numerous historic buildings in Oregon. She died in 1995.

Tape 1, Side 1. This oral history interview with Ruth McBride Powers was conducted by Margot Riordan-Eva in Oregon City, Oregon, on February 25, 1980. At the time of the interview, Riordan-Eva's name was Margot C. Vaughan.

In this interview, Powers discusses her work restoring historic buildings in Oregon, talks about articles she wrote on the subject, and speaks at length about collecting and preserving early Oregonian furniture. She closes the interview by sharing advice for future historic preservationists.
