Biographical history

Monte Ballou (Ralph Hosea Ballou) was born 1902 July 21 in Waterport, New York. His family moved to Oregon in 1911. He developed an interest in music at an early age, particularly jazz music. He played mandolin, banjo and guitar. He was part of the Castle Jazz Band which recorded two LPs in 1957 and 1959. The band was part of the West Coast revival of traditional jazz.
