Biographical history

Frances Mae Brandon, nee Johns, was born in Spokane, Washington, in 1913. In 1938, she and Gatlin Randall Brandon were married; they later had two children. She was a nurse at the Kaiser shipyards child service center on Swan Island in Portland, Oregon, from 1944 to 1945. She worked as a nurse in private practice after the end of World War II. She died in 1996.

In this interview, Frances M. Brandon discusses her work as a nurse at the Kaiser shipyard day care center on Swan Island. She talks about the health and sanitation practices in the day care infirmary. She also talks about using the centers for her children. Incomplete transcript available (15 pages).
