A cropped version of this photograph was published on Page 14 of the Oregon Journal on Thursday, October 26, 1933, under the headline “New Oregon Commander and Co-Workers.” The photograph had the following caption: “Major Harold Madsen, newly appointed commander of Salvation Army operations in Oregon and Southern Idaho, his family and young people’s assistant, who arrived late Wednesday. Front row—The four Madsen children (from left), Harold, Eleanor, Ellsworth and Dallas. Back row—Mrs. Madsen, Major Madsen and Adjutant C. Sundgaard, coast director of Scandinavian young people’s activities. Major Madsen will continue in his former work as commander of coast Scandinavian corps, the two positions having been merged. He will be installed tonight at the Citadel at a public service by Colonel George Davis of San Francisco, chief secretary for the Western territory.”
