A clipping from the "Oregon Argus" newspaper. The clipping is a reprint from the "Oregon Statesman" and details the arrival of S. B. Hadley at Corvallis with a petition from Umpqua Valley citizens to Governor Curry requesting volunteers to "repel the hostilities of the Shasta and Rogue River Indians."

Positions to be elected in each county include three judges of the probate court, one clerk of the probate court, one sherriff, one assessor, one county treasurer, one school commissioner, and justices of the peace.

The second page is a proclamation encouraging all civil officers and citizens to seize deserters and deliver them to any commissioned officer in the service of the United States.

A secretly-printed broadside issued by Governor George Abernethy and circulated among immigrants traveling west. The circular describes preferred conduct towards Native peoples and warns against trying new routes, encouraging families to "keep the old road."

Photograph of Willamette Falls in Oregon City taken by Lorenzo Lorain circa 1857. The photograph is taken from the edge of the Willamette River looking upriver to the waterfall. There are several structures around the falls on both sides of the river. The typed caption glued below the bristol board on the front of the photograph reads, "Falls of the Willamette River at Oregon City. About 1857 or 1858. Taken by Lt. Lorenzo Lorain, U.S.A. Donated to Oregon Historical Society, 1946, by S. H. Lorain, Albany, Oregon."

George Abernethy & Co. store in Oregon City, Oregon

Cased photograph showing an exterior view of the George Abernethy & Co. store in Oregon City, Oregon. Several men pose outside the store. A sign on the building reads, "Geo. Abernethy & Co. Wholesale Dealers." Other signs on the building advertise various goods such as boots, nails, crockery and powder. George Abernethy was the Provisional Governor of Oregon in the 1840's. Legacy collection records indicate this may be the first brick building built in the state of Oregon. Records also speculate that the photographer may have been either Joseph Buchtel, who had a photo studio on the second floor of the building in 1857, or Holland and Day, who had a photo studio across the street in 1858. Case is made of wood and leather.

Negatives documenting company activities, including electrical infrastructure, employees, power generation and distribution throughout Portland, the Willamette Valley and the Oregon Cascade Range. Additional general images include streetcars and trains, street lighting, power line installation, Rose Festival floats, office buildings, car barns and bridges. Of particular note are dam building projects at Bull Run and along the Clackamas River (1910-1930), and early electric stations in Oregon City at Willamette Falls.
