A convention button and ribbon are pinned to the man’s lapel. On the button is the name “Ed Wobber.” On the ribbon is the text “Stationers Association / Twenty-Sixth Annual Convention / Portland / August 16th-17th / 1935.” The name “Wobber” is written on the negative and is visible at the bottom of the image.

Lot 1027, Box 4, folder 32) is stamped with the date May 3, 1945, and has the following caption information: “LEADERS at a two-day conference of Oregon-Washington gas company executives opened here this morning are: R. G. Barnett, vice president and general manager of Portland Gas & Coke company (left), and Gordon J. Malone, Evansville, Ind., representing Servel, Inc. Malone, originator of the ‘Servel Plan’ to create more jobs for ex-service men and women and to keep business moving in volume after the war, opened the conference at the Portland Gas copany's [sic] hospitality house in the Public Service building.” The number 5004 is written on the negative and is faintly visible in the upper right corner of the image. Full-length portrait of five unidentified men standing in a row outside a Portland building and facing front. Four of the men are wearing ribbons with the words “Retail Furniture Dealers” on them. The text “Furniture Officers — 1931” is written on the negative and is visible on the right side of the image. The men may be officers of the Retail Furniture Dealers of Oregon, which had its annual convention at the Multnomah Hotel in Portland on July 11, 1931.

Attendees at convention of 1929 Pacific Coast Building Officials Conference

Portrait of six men, all wearing suits and ties, posing in two rows and facing front. Three of the men are wearing name tags and ribbons on their lapels. The following text is printed on the ribbons, all in uppercase: “Eighth annual convention / Pacific Coast Building Officials Conference / Portland, Ore. / Sept. 3-6 / 1929.” The name “Walter Putnam” is handwritten on the name tag of the man on the right; the name “H. E. Plummer” is written on the name tag of the man in the center. Putnam was president of the conference; Plummer, head of the Portland Bureau of Buildings (now the Bureau of Development Services), was vice president. The second man from the left may be David H. Merrill, secretary-manager of the conference. The other three men are unidentified. The 1929 convention of the Pacific Coast Building Officials Conference was held at the Multnomah Hotel in Portland.

Railroad officials meeting in office at Wells Fargo Building, Portland

Photograph of ten railroad officials gathered around a desk during a meeting in Portland on Thursday, May 6, 1920. A cropped version of this photograph was published on the front page of the Oregon Journal city edition on Friday, May 7, 1920, under the headline “Morgan, Harriman, Rockefeller, Chiefs in Notable Conference.” The photograph had the following caption: “Photograph taken Thursday evening of heads of great transcontinental lines at the close of their three-day conference in Portland. These sessions were among the most important held by railroad officials in the West in recent years and brought together the controlling geniuses of the rival Hill and Harriman systems. The meetings were held in the offices of J. P. O’Brien in the Wells Fargo building. Shown in the photograph are: Seated, left to right—J. P. O’Brien, president North Pacific Terminal Company; William Sproule, president Southern Pacific; Carl R. Gray, president Union Pacific system; L. C. Gilman, president S., P & S. [Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway]; Ralph Budd, president Great Northern; George T. Reid, assistant to president Northern Pacific. Standing, left to right—J. H.
