Two police officers, Jack Crawford and E.C. Lawton, with a bell stolen from University of Portland, found in the woods on S.W. Hampshire street in Arlington Heights. Crawford and Lawton are attempting to lift the bell (negative 1 of 1).

Civilian Conservation Corps workers? carrying milk can

Photograph, probably taken in May 1933, showing three unidentified men walking in a muddy field. The two men at right are carrying a milk can between them. The men are probably Civilian Conservation Corps workers stationed at one of two CCC camps off the Mount Hood Loop Highway (now Highway 26): one located in Zigzag, Oregon, and one at Old Toll Gate, several miles away from Zigzag. The photographs were published under the headline “Red Cross Girls Show Life Saving Holds.” The caption identified the technique in this photograph as “firemen’s carry.” The caption information also included the following text: “Poses by the Misses Hazel Pearce and Isabelle McKeen, under direction of Miss Lillian Hansen.” The photographs accompanied a story headlined “Red Cross Has Many Girls in Life Saving Corps.” Image note: The text “Red Cross bathing” is written on the negative sleeve. Photograph shows discoloration due to deterioration of the negative.
