The girl who stands between her parents holds her right hand over her heart. A typed note enclosed with the image reads, "Daguerreotype from the estate of Miss Ruth Drake." Collection records indicate this is the James Robb family, taken circa 1851. Scratch marks obscure the faces of both parents. Case made of leather and wood. Case cover replaced with archival board during conservation.

Died April 28, 1929, Portland, Oregon. This note has been removed and is stored in a separate folder. Case is book-style and made of leather and wood.

Portrait of William Morse Barker as a child

Uncased tintype featuring a portrait of a seated child wearing a patterned dress. The child looks at the camera. Legacy collection records indicate this is William Morse Barker, son of George R. Barker and Anna Morris Barker, who was born in 1854. Records also indicate the child is a sibling of Bishop Morris. A stamp on the back of the tintype plate reads, "Patented 19 Feb 1856." Barker's siblings are pictured in OrgLot1414_0246S034 and OrgLot1414_0246S035.

Portrait of Mrs. Lucinda Sumner Hadlock and 2 children

Cased photograph featuring a portrait of a woman and 2 children. The woman holds a baby in her lap while a young child stands at her side. The woman is identified as Lucinda Sumner Hadlock and they two children are likely Samuel W. Hadlock and Lillian Hadlock. Typed note enclosed with the image reads, "Mrs. Lucinda Sumner Hadlock, a pioneer of 1852, and children. Taken by Buchtel, Portland, O. T., 1856. In later life this lady was known as Mrs. Taylor." Case is made of leather. Case cover missing and replaced with archival board during conservation.

Portrait of C. H. Ramsay as a child

An ambrotype portrait of a young child identified as C. H. Ramsay. They are seated in a chair wearing a light colored dress with white stripes along the hem and sleeves. Conservator notes document an inscription in pen found on the assembly backing which reads, "C. H. Ramsay, Aug. 11, 1857, 2y&4 months." Legacy collection records indicate that this photograph is part of the David T. Mason MSS collection. The photograph is housed in a metal frame with gold matting.

Cased photograph featuring a portrait of a seated girl wearing a floral print dress. She looks at the camera. Typed notes affixed to the outside of the case read, "Catharine Forstner b. Bethel, Mo. 1850. This picture taken in Missouri in 1860. She was 10. Grandmother of Eugene E. Snyder." Conservation records indicate a photographer's imprint which reads, "Aurora, Ore." Accompanying notes state that this print was generated circa 1880's or 1890's, possibly as a replacement for the original image. Case is made of wood and pressed paper.

Portrait of George W. Brown family

Cased photograph featuring a portrait of a seated family showing a father, mother and 2 girls. The father has an arm around one girl while the mother has an arm around the other girl. The mother and girls wear dresses while the father wears a suit. Handwritten note enclosed with the image reads, "George W. Brown and family, Harriett (wife), R. Melissa, Harriett." Engraving below the image reads, "J. P. Ball, Cincinnati." Ball was a prominent African American photographer, and one of the few to take daguerreotypes. Image was in wooden frame and replaced with archival board during conservation.

The girl stands next to him, wearing a dress and looking at the camera. Legacy collection records indicate they are cousins, Anna Rice (Voorhees) and Bennie Mills. Case is made of wood and leather.

Portraits of the Shattuck children

Case contains 2 portraits. On the left is a portrait of a little girl and boy sitting next to each other. The girl wears a printed, off-the-shoulder dress while the boy wears a button-up shirt. A third child sits on the left but has been cut out of the photograph. On the right is a portrait of a girl leaning on a table with her left arm. She wears a dress. Typed noted enclosed with the images reads, "Children of Judge E. D. and Mrs. Shattuck, who came from Vermont, with daughter Emily, in 1853." Legacy collection records indicate that the children on the left may be named Ira and Henry, while the girl leaning on the table may be named Emily, who became a teacher at Portland Central High and died of tuberculosis at age 24. Their father was likely Erasmus D. Shattuck, who served on the Oregon Supreme Court from 1866-1867. The image of the girl on the right was previously named: OrgLot1414_0244S009. Case is made of leather and wood.

Portrait of an unidentified family

Two daguerreotype portraits in a double case. The first portrait is of an unidentified woman wearing a dark dress with a white shawl and house cap. The image surface is damaged obscuring some detail. The second portrait is of an unidentified man and woman with an infant and an open book held in her lap. The man and woman are both seated looking directly at the camera. The man wears a dark suit with a bow tie. The woman wears a dark dress with a white lace collar and full sleeves with dropped epaulets. Both of the portraits are copies of earlier daguerreotypes. The conservator's notes for the portrait of the woman indicates that the name "Corduan & Co. N. Y." is printed in reverse under the matting at the top of the plate.

Cased photograph featuring a portrait of a girl wearing an off-the-shoulder dress. Her hands rest on the front of her dress and she looks to the left of the camera. Typed note enclosed with the image reads, "Mrs. B. B. Acker as a child of ten years." Handwritten note enclosed with the image reads, "Mrs. -- (Hadlock) Acker whose husband, Barrett B. Acker, was in 1886, proprietor of City Stables, etc. at 107 Second St. Portland. Largest livery stable in Portland in its day." Legacy collection records indicate that her first name was Lillie. Case is made of leather and wood.
