Portrait of an artist in a smock and beret, sitting at sculptor’s table and working on a sculpture of a Blackfoot man. A cropped version of this photograph, along with image Nos. 371N2894 and 371N2895, was published on Page 3 of the Oregon Journal’s Sunday magazine on August 13, 1933. The photographs accompanied an article about Voisin, titled “Adventures of a Sculptor Among the Blackfeet Indians of Montana.” This photograph had the following caption: “Adrien Voisin, Portland sculptor, with a figure of Two-Guns-White Calf, the model of the Indian head on the buffalo nickel.” Also see image Nos. 371N2896, 371N2897, 371N2902, and 371N2903.

The photograph is probably related to a dance pageant titled “Festival of the Cherry Blossoms” or “Legend of the Cherry Blossoms” that was performed at Laurelhurst Park in Portland in August 1930. The name “Ruby Asquith” is written on the negative and is faintly visible on the left side of the image.

This photograph was probably taken at the 1929 Rose Festival, when Tommy Luke was crowned Rex Oregonus, co-regent with the festival queen. Photograph of an airplane with a bent propeller lying on the ground. The text “Herndon-Pangborn” is painted on the side of the plane just below the cockpit. The photograph was taken after aviators Clyde Pangborn and Hugh Herndon Jr. completed the first non-stop flight across the Pacific Ocean from Japan to the United States on October 5, 1931. They won a $25,000 prize offered by the Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun. Pangborn and Herndon landed their plane, Miss Veedol, on its belly at the airfield in Wenatchee, Washington, without landing gear. They had dumped the landing gear shortly after takeoff to reduce weight.
