Man on horse-drawn wagon

Photograph of an unidentified man on the seat of a wagon hitched to a team of six horses or ponies. The wagon is stopped on a lawn outside a building with the word “OFFICE” on the roof, probably at the Multnomah County Fairgrounds in Gresham, Oregon. Painted on the side of the wagon are the words: “Mrs F. B. Bunn’s Stable’s. [sic] / Portland Ore.” The photograph may have been taken at the Multnomah County Fair. Also see image No. 374N0733.

Photograph of Mr. and Mrs. McCleave of Stockton, California, sitting in a four-wheeled wagon hitched to a horse named Buttermilk, part of their troupe of 22 horses. A sign on the side of the wagon has the text “Multnomah Co. Fair / At Gresham / Aug. 22-28.” The photograph was probably taken at the fairgrounds in Gresham. The number 9 is written on the negative and is visible in the lower left corner of the image.

Negatives documenting company activities, including electrical infrastructure, employees, power generation and distribution throughout Portland, the Willamette Valley and the Oregon Cascade Range. Additional general images include streetcars and trains, street lighting, power line installation, Rose Festival floats, office buildings, car barns and bridges. Of particular note are dam building projects at Bull Run and along the Clackamas River (1910-1930), and early electric stations in Oregon City at Willamette Falls.
