Carson and an unidentified boy standing at the rail of the ocean liner General Sherman on March 17, 1933, as the steamship arrived in Portland from Asia. Carson had traveled to Japan, China, and the Philippines aboard the vessel. The Oregon Journal published a front-page story about Carson’s return on March 18, 1933, along with two photographs, related image Nos. 371N0458 and 371N0482.
