Tents at Civilian Conservation Corps’ Toll Gate camp near Rhododendron, Oregon

The camp was located off the Mount Hood Loop Highway (now Highway 26) near Rhododendron, Oregon, several miles from the CCC camp at Zigzag. Sign for the Frank Tankersley Labor Camp in Washington County, Oregon

A sign at the edge of a field reads, "Frank Tankersley Labor Camp." A second sign reads, "No admittance unless authorized thru office. Solicitors, social groups, VISTA volunteers, VIVA group, Valley Migrant League, county and state officials dial 331-2998. Frank Tankersley." A third sign warns drivers to drive slowly. Tankersley runs a migrant labor camp in Washington County, Oregon. This image was published in the Valley Migrant League's Opportunity News on March 3, 1966.

Negatives documenting company activities, including electrical infrastructure, employees, power generation and distribution throughout Portland, the Willamette Valley and the Oregon Cascade Range. Additional general images include streetcars and trains, street lighting, power line installation, Rose Festival floats, office buildings, car barns and bridges. Of particular note are dam building projects at Bull Run and along the Clackamas River (1910-1930), and early electric stations in Oregon City at Willamette Falls.

The third, fourth, and fifth photos show Major Casper B. Rucker, Major Charles H. Corlett, and Major Carroll P. Price and list the dates they were in service.

Three photos show the train station where "casuals" are departing Eugene for home. Two photos show Marcia Jacobs and other young women from Eugene who entertained the camp members, known as the "Jolly Skitters." Shown also are Charles N. Branham, 1st Lieutenant 6th Coast Artillery Corps and Camp Commander, and Seth M. Kerron, Captain Medical Corps Reserve and Attending Surgeon.

Three photos depict members of the camp, including one photo of a baseball team. The members of the team are identified as Whitsell, Winkleman, Cuddebark, Brewer, Koppel, Herbert, Grable, Aason, Surcamp, Bishop, and Madison. Another member of the camp is identified as Jack "Major" Connolle.
