Nelson, Elizabeth R. (Davis)

Elizabeth R. Davis, born in 1816 in Tennessee, who married Samuel L. Nelson in 1839 in Washington County, Illinois. They came across the plains to Oregon in 1852 from Hannibal, Missouri. He was a physician and they settled on a donation land claim on Mt. Tabor, in East Portland. He died in Portland in February of 1888.

Naylor, Thomas George and son

Thomas George Naylor, born October 12, 1814 in Albemarle County, Virginia. He married Sarah E. Storey and started for Oregon May 15, 1843, arriving on November 15th that year. They had five children, and Sarah died Feb. 2, 1852, in West Tualatin Plains, probably near Milton. With Sarah, his children were: Thomas (b. 1842?, Missouri), Sarah Catherine (b. 1844), Hardinia P. (b. 1846), James Henry (b. 1848), Margaret (b. 1850), John (b. 1852). He later married Catherine Storey, and had Mary A. (1854-1863), Myra (b. 1856), George F. (b. 1857), Julia Frances (b. and d. May 1859), Charles P. (b. 1860), and Nellie Jane (1871-1873).

Oliver Nadeau, a French chef, laborer, and wood chopper who resided in Jackson County, Oregon. He was born in about 1832 in Eastern Canada.

Murray, Lillie Cora Johnson

Lillie Cora Johnson, the daughter of Charles F. and Orle(a)na Johnson. Her father died when she was young, and her mother married George W. Murray. Lillie married John M. P. Chalmers in 1886 and resided in Portland, but they divorced between 1900 and 1914. She was the mother of Louise Chalmers (married Barton).

Lillie Cora Johnson, the daughter of Charles F. and Orle(a)na Johnson. Her father died when she was young, and her mother married George W. Murray. Lillie married John M. P. Murray, Orlena Maria (Cardwell) Johnson and Lillie

Orlena Maria (Cardwell), the daughter of William Lee and Mary Ann (Biddle) Cardwell, who came to Oregon in 1852 and settled in Portland. She first married Charles F. Johnson in 1855 in Benton County. After his death, she then married George W. Murray, in Portland, in 1863. She is pictured with her daughter, Lillie, who was born in 1858, the daughter of Charles Johnson.

Murphy, Frances Mary Wright (Doughty)

Frances ("Frankie") Mary Wright (Doughty), who married Rev. John Ecles Murphy in March 1827 in Kentucky. She was born in 1810, also in Kentucky. Her husband was a preacher in Warren County, Illinois, for a number of years, and most of their children were born there: William P. (born 1830), Elizabeth F. (b. 1832), Henderson W. (b. 1834), James L. (b. 1836), Preston D. (b. 1841), Nancy A. (b. 1844), Mary Adaline (b. 1847). Emma D. (b. 1850), Ellen (b. 1850), and Albert (b. 1852) were born in Oregon.

Murphy, William and Betsy R. (Roundtree)

William E. and Elizabeth ("Betsy") Richardson (Roundtree) Murphy, who came overland to Oregon from Illinois in 1852, arriving in 1853. They married in Knox County, Illinois, on May 20, 1841. Their sons, William P. (born 1850), Levi Alexander (born 1842), and John Leon (born 1843), Morvan A. (born 1845) were born in Knox County. Once in Oregon, the family resided in Polk County, Oregon, probably near Monmouth. Nancy Ellen (born 1847) and Mary Frances (born 1852) were their only daughters. Their youngest son, A. E., was born in 1856 in Washington Territory.

Mulkey, Philip J.

Philip J. Mulkey during the Spanish-American War in the Philippines. Reverse note: "Taken after 9 days and nights of hard marching and guard duty. A dirty crowd it was...passed all the 9 days without removing clothing." Philip Mulkey was born September 1872, near Spencer Creek in Eugene, Oregon. He died September 20, 1973.

Moyer, Elizabeth Devine (Brown)

Elizabeth Devine Brown, daughter of Hon. Hugh L. and Clarissa (Browning) Brown, who founded Brownsville, Linn County, Oregon. She was born in about 1840 in Missouri, and came overland with her family by ox team, to Linn County, arriving in September 1846. She married John M. Moyer in 1857 and remained in Brownsville all of her life, though she died in Portland in 1921.

Reverse of photo labeled "Mr." Moyer of Brownsville, Oregon. This must be John M. Moyer, who was born in Pennsylvania in 1829 and came west over the plains from Ohio in 1852. He first settled as a carpenter in Clackamas, but moved to Linn County by June 1857, when he married Elizabeth Devine Brown, the daughter of the Hon. Hugh L. Brown, founder of Brownsville. They had three children: Edward D., Hugh B., and Ethel (deceased by 1885). John Moyer became the proprietor of the woolen mills in Brownsville. He died in Brownsville, July 25, 1904.

Morton, Joseph W.

Joseph W. Morton, of Hood River, Oregon, taken June 1884. He was born in Henry County, Iowa, on January 23, 1865, and arrived in Oregon with his parents (Charles and Caroline (Reed) Morton) on May 1st, 1875. They initially lived in both Washington and Yamhill Counties, but moved to Hood River in June 1883. He served in the Oregon Legislature during the session of 1899. He was admitted to the State Bar in 1907, and practiced law in Hood River for one year. Most of his time was spent on his orchard. He married Pearl Groshong in 1902, and they had at least six children: Charles Bruce, Ruth, Della, Frank Leslie, Gladys, and Avis Morton. He died on September 25, 1939.

Morse, Henry B.

Henry Bromwell Morse, originally from Bath, Maine, who arrived in Oregon in 1858, from California. He married Harriet Newell Millard (the daughter of Dr. Justin Millard) in Portland in 1861. Their children were Henry F., Dr. Edwin W., Eugenia, Emma C. (Riddell), and Harriet M. (Lockwood). The Morses were among the charter members of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Henry was the Portland City Treasurer in 1862, as well as a merchant and miner.

Morrison, Nancy (Irwin)

Nancy Irwin, who married Capt. Robert Wilson Morrison, and came to Oregon in 1844. She was the mother of Hannah Margaret, who married Capt. Hamblin, as well as William J., Jefferson, Mary Ellen (Carnahan), Martha Ann (Minto), to name a few. The family settled in Clatsop County. Nancy was born on April 27, 1809, in Kentucky. She died on November 3, 1889, the mother of nine children.

Hannah Margaret Morrison, born March 2, 1839, in Andrew County, Missouri. Came with her family across the Oregon Trail in 1844, arriving in Oregon in November. She was the daughter of Captain Robert and Nancy Morrison, and lived in Clatsop County in 1860. She married Capt. Charles W. Hamblin in Clatsop County on June 1, 1876. She died in Clatsop County, Oregon, on January 11, 1916.

Rachel Morris, sister of Bishop Benjamin Wistar Morris, who gave bells to Trinity Episcopal Church of Portland, Oregon. She was born in Pennsylvania, in 1821. She came to live with her brother's family in Portland, arriving before 1870.

Morris, Bishop Benjamin Wistar

Bishop Benjamin W. Morris, Episcopal bishop of Oregon. He was born on May 30, 1819, in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania. He was elected to be Bishop of Oregon in October of 1868. He married Hannah Rodney, of Delaware, in June of 1852. He died on April 8, 1906, in Portland.

Reverse of photo labeled as Frank Morgan, "Supper Weady Roo." Frank Morgan was born in 1876, and this photograph is older than ca. 1880, so this is likely to be his older brother, Fred, born in 1870. They were the sons of Amos H. and Malinda (Boon) Morgan.

Morgan, Malinda Emily (Boon)

Malinda ("Minnie") Emily Boon, who was born on the Oregon Trail on September 10, 1845. She married Amos H Morgan in Salem, and they settled in Portland. They had two sons and one daughter, all of whom survived their parents. She died in Portland on December 28, 1918.

Morgan, Amos Hoyt

Amos Hoyt Morgan, born December 15, 1836, in Elmira, New York. He came to Salem, where he married Malinda (Minnie) Emily Boon on February 22, 1865. They resided in Portland for about 30 years before his death in March of 1897. He was in the wholesale commission business with Reuben Weeks, and also served as the Collector of Internal Revenue in his district from 1874 to 1879. They had two sons, Fred P. and Frank, and a daughter, Lena (McClement).
