Four women smile at a desk in the Oregon State Legislature in Salem, Oregon. The desk displays a sign which reads, "Grace Olivier Peck." Behind the women is a large blackboard listing various committee meetings. Pictured from left to right are Beulah Hand (D-Clackamas), Shirley Field (R-Multnomah), Grace Olivier Peck (D-Multnomah) and Katherine Musa (D-Wasco). This photograph was published in the Oregon Journal on January 14, 1959 (negative 5 of 12).

A black and white photograph of Mr. William S. Smith, the first teacher and founder of the Oregon School for the Deaf, and his class of 13 students. Smith sits in the center of the photograph with his students in chairs or standing around him. Standing (left to right): Eli Baker, Nelson Woods, Leona Fenland, Lee Brown, Nellie Druck, Fannie Whitaker, John Thornton. Seated (left to right): Eva Hockett, Kate Foland, Nina Penland, William S. Smith, Nancy Harris, Anna Harper, Renel Frazier. The photograph is mounted on a light brown mat. On the back of the photograph is a handwritten note that reads: "Williams S. Smith and his class, 1885 at Oregon School for Deaf Mutes, Church and Mission Streets. Wm. S. Smith, deaf himself, Oregon's first deaf teacher and founder of Ore. School for Deaf, November 1870." The Oregon School for Deaf-Mutes was the name of the school from 1880-1913.

A cropped version of this photograph was one of five, including image No. 371N1968, that were published on Page 22 of the Oregon Journal on Tuesday, January 11, 1927, the day after Patterson’s inauguration. A cropped version of this photograph was one of six published on Page 1, Section 2, of the Oregon Journal city edition on Sunday, January 14, 1923, under the headline “Who’s Who at Salem, Where Oregon Legislature Is In Session.” The photographs had the following caption: “State House snapshots by Journal staff photographer.” This photograph had the additional information: “Walter G. Virgil Kubin wears overalls, a jacket, and a baseball cap as he stands in front of a new cabin on his property in Salem, Oregon. The cabin was built to house migrant farm workers. Kubin is a cherry grower who depends upon seasonal migrant labor. This image was published in the Valley Migrant League's Opportunity News on March 17, 1967.
