Photograph showing violinist Benno Rabinof playing with the Portland Symphony Orchestra (now the Oregon Symphony) during a rehearsal. A cropped version of this photograph was published in on Page 2 of the Oregon Journal’s home edition on Monday, November 19, 1934. The photograph had the headline “His Guadanini Sings Sibelius” and the following caption: “Benno Rabinof, American violinist, photographed at rehearsal Monday morning with the Portland Symphony orchestra for night concert at The Auditorium. Rabinof will play Finland’s famous composer’s stupendous concerto, which Rabinof says is most intriguing—and tricky. Willem van Hoogstraten, conductor, was reading the opening phrases when Ralph Vincent, Journal staff photographer, caught the picture of Rabinof in action.” Image note: The name “Benno Rabinoff [sic]” is written on the negative and is visible on the left side of the image.
