Second from left is Melva Lillian Cole of Fargo, North Dakota, who visited Portland from December 12, 1942 to January 8, 1943. Cole was visiting Portland to christen a ship, PC 816, a submarine chaser known as Hell Hornet, at Albina Engine & Machine Works in Portland. Her husband, Navy serviceman Wilson Burnett Cole, was killed in a German submarine attack off Cape Hatteras in 1942. Portland amateur boxers

Two unidentified amateur boxers during a March of Dimes charity show in Portland, at the Woodmen of the World Hall (719 S.E. Alder Street). One man is slumped on the ground while another standing boxer holds him from behind. Both are wearing boxing shorts and gloves. A photograph from this series was published in the Oregon Journal on Sunday, February 8, 1953 (negative 4 of 5).
