Coastal cities and towns, water depths, reefs, lights, and buoys are shown. A table of tidal information and seven inset maps are included. The inset maps show Duncan Rock and Cape Flattery, Grays Harbour, Orford Reef, Humboldt Bay, and the entrances to the Umpqua River, the Yaquina River, and the Coos River. Two coastal views are included: Cape Flattery and the entrance to Humboldt Bay. Relief is shown by hachures and spot heights. Depths are shown by soundings in fathoms.

Map and Short Story of the PNW, Embracing Oregon, Washington and Idaho, 1904

A map of the Pacific Northwest depicting railways and steamship lines in the region, primarily Oregon and Washington. Lines at the top and bottom of the map read, "The Northwest presents the greatest opportunities for settlers of any portion of "Uncle Sam's" domain. For grains, grasses, live stock and minerals the territory embraced in this map is unequalled." The back of the map is a pamphlet titled, "Map and Short Story of the Pacific Northwest embracing Oregon Washington Idaho." The pamphlet contains information about various aspects of the region, including climate, agriculture, mining, lumber, and schools and churches. Inset maps include the route of the Oregon Short Line Railroad and a bird's-eye view of the Lewis and Clark Exposition Grounds.

Map depicting the outlet of the Columbia River to the Pacific Ocean. The map shows water depths, Astoria, Oregon, Gray's Bay, Cape Disappointment, and the locations of Native American tribal groups. The northern side of the outlet reads, "Country Low, open & marshy, interspersed with Pines. Thick undergrowth." The southern side of the outlet reads, "High Lands covered with Lofty Pines." The bottom includes a note that reads, "The Cape is a circular knob about 150 f. high," and a note that reads "Engraved for J. Melish's Description of the United States." Prime meridians: Washington, D.C. and London.
