The photograph was taken on Saturday July 13, 1918, after the party’s arrival in Portland, where Schwab was inspecting shipbuilding operations. That day, a similar photograph, image No. 373G0186, was published on the front page of the Oregon Journal under the headline “Shipbuilding Chief Has Happy Environs.” That photograph had the following caption: “Portland has been signally honored by the visit of Charles M. Schwab, director general, and his party of Emergency Fleet Corporation officials, whose delightful traveling companions are enthusiastic as to the beauty they have found here. Mrs. Schwab and Mrs. Piez are keenly anticipating a Sunday afternoon trip over the Columbia river highway. In the picture, from left to right, are Mrs. Charles Piez, Charles M.
