The original photograph is probably circa 1914. The background has been masked out. Written on it are an arrow pointing to Alexandra and the words “Czarina only.” A cropped version of this photograph was published on the front page of the Oregon Journal on Friday, March 16, 1917, with the following caption: “Czar Nicholas and his family, now scattered because of the revolution. The czar is endeavoring to reach Pskoff, the czarina is at Petrograd, victim of a hysterical attack, while the czarevitch, 13-year-old Alexis, is seriously ill. Left to right, Grand Duchess Tatiana, Grand Duchess Marie, the czar, the czarina, Grand Duchess Anastasia, the czarevitch and the Grand Duchess Olga.” Image note: The number 184 is etched on the negative.
