Millar, Reverend James P.

Reverend James P. Millar/Miller, a minister of the United Presbyterian church. He was killed at Canemah, Oregon Territory, on April 8, 1854, by the explosion of the steamer Gazelle. His wife, Amanda, suffered two broken ribs from the incident. They had been living in Albany at the time.

One of the founders and senior partners of the Ladd and Tilton Bank, in Portland, Oregon, in 1859. Married: Miss Caroline A. Elliott, of New Hampshire, in 1854."

Legacy collection records indicate this is John and Clarissa Waymire, and that the daguerreotype plate was made by the Scovill Manufacturing Company. Conservation records state that it, "appears to have been made by placing silhouette forms of Mr. and Mrs. Waymire at the edge of a fabric-covered table in the studio." Case is made of wood and leather and is missing its cover.

This collection consists of glass negatives taken by photographers for the Portland, Oregon based newspaper, The Oregonian. Most of the photographs in this collection are undated but the bulk of the photographs are believed to be taken between 1890 and 1920.
