In the letter Shidzuyo discusses the contract terms of the family having to sell their assets, including the Mosier farm, and contract negotiations with a lawyer. She mentions her and the family's efforts to determine if Masuo will be paroled and released, including writing letters to request his release. She also gives updates on Toshio, Minoru, Roku, Homer, and Yuka, including Toshio not passing the bar exam, Minoru's disappointment at not being able to get into the Army, Minoru and Toshio's efforts to open a law firm, Homer's upcoming attendance of Minnesota College, and Yuka's plans to go to Wisconsin. Shidzuyo writes that if Masuo cannot be home by January, she will either go back to Tsuyoshi's or to the camp in Minidoka.
