Mendendhall, Rush

Rush Mendenhall, who was born in Ohio on April 25, 1822. He came to Oregon Territory across the plains, and arrived at Oregon City in September of 1847. He went to the mines in 1848 and reportedly made $2,500 in one day. He was an orderly sergeant in the Cayuse War, and worked on the schooner 'Governor Lane' in California. He married Esther Louise Worden in 1852. They were living in Portland with their family in 1880. He was working as a boot and shoe merchant at the time.

Quackenbush, Edward

Edward Quackenbush, who was born in 1839 in New York. He came to San Francisco via the Horn as a young man and was educated in accounting. When the firm of Allen and Lewis, in Portland, was in need of a bookkeeper, he came to Portland and soon began work at the Ladd and Tilton Bank, where he was an eventual manager. He was very involved in in civic activities, being credited with having founded the Portland Chamber of Commerce and the Y. M. C. A. He is also largely credited with the organization of the first baseball team in the city. He married Anna Clarke Hasty (or Hastie) on September 5th, 1867, in Multnomah County. They had one son, Fred, who died several days before Edward, in 1928. Anna passed away at their summer home in Hood River, in 1911.

Hogue, Charles Park

Charles Park Hogue, born January 1, 1847, in McComb, Illinois. He and his family were pioneers to Oregon in 1852. He was the son of James P. and Sarah, and lived in Linn County in 1860. In 1880, he and his family were living in Portland and he worked as a bookkeeper. Charles was the uncle of Harry Wildey Hogue, a well-known lawyer in Portland.

Kilbourn, Oscar K.

Oscar K. Kilbourn, well known auctioneer and insurance agent of Portland, Oregon, who was born circa 1836 in New York. He died in Portland in December of 1883.

Long, Isaac

Isaac "Ike" Long (1848-1874), raised by Walter Monteith, was a printer, born in Missouri. He was in charge of the Jackson Sentinel newspaper at the time of his death in Albany.

Blain, Mary (Miller)

Mary Miller, who married Leighton E. Blain, in Albany in about 1868. She was born in Iowa, in October 1845, and crossed the plains to Oregon, arriving in November 1852. They first located on the Tualatin Plains. She died July 30, 1931.

Paxton, Andrew B.

Crawford, David, 1820-1903

Portrait of David Crawford, pioneer of 1844. Settled in Marion County and was a volunteer in the Cayuse War of 1847-48. Went to the mines in California in 1849, then returned to Pennsylvania in 1859, and was married there. Died in Altoona, Pennsylvania, August 20, 1903.
