Horse car line on Grand Avenue and East Morrison Street

Photograph showing horse cars on the corner of Grand Avenue and East Morrison Street in East Portland. A wooden building can be seen on the corner, with other building visible behind. Two horse-drawn street cars can be seen at either sides of the frame, and three other horse-drawn carts with riders are visible near the center. Several men stand at the entrance to the building on the corner, looking at the camera. The photograph is a reproduction of a pinned image (pins can be seen on the frame) with the caption “Horse car-line on Grand Ave and E. Morrison.” On the photo frame “Eastman, photo” is written.

Horse-Drawn Delivery Wagon in front of Meier & Frank Store

Two men sit in a horse-drawn delivery wagon on a street outside of a Meier & Frank store in Portland, Oregon. An automobile prepares to pass the wagon from behind. Pictured from left to right are Lawrence Horseman, driving the wagon, and A.W. Holts, a senior driver who began working at Meier and Frank in 1903. This wagon is a part of the 100th anniversary celebration of the Meier and Frank company (negative 12 of 12).

L. L. Hawkin's wagon, Jupiter, filled with children

A tintype in a paper mount depicting a group of children from the Boys & Girls Aid Society taking a ride in Lester Leander Hawkin's horse-drawn wagon, Jupiter. The wagon is parked in front of the Pioneer Post Office (today the Pioneer Courthouse) in downtown Portland, Oregon. A handwritten note from the back of the paper case reads, "L. L. Hawkin's Tally-Ho "Jupiter." 34 children taking a ride."

View of First Street in Portland, Oregon, in 1857 attributed to Lorenzo Lorain. The photograph shows the Union Hotel, Monnastes & David foundry, and Hop Wo Washing & Ironing. Several horse-drawn wagons are on the unpaved street in front of the buildings. Several men stand around large metal pieces in front of the foundry. A handwritten caption on the back of the photograph reads, "Portland, 1857. West side of First Street, between Yamhill and Morrison, showing the foundry owned by Monnastes & David, and the Union Hotel."

Mounted soldier from Lord Strathcona’s Horse regiment

Photograph of a uniformed man on horseback, holding a bugle to his lips. Attached to the bugle is a banner with the letters “LSH,” for Lord Strathcona’s Horse, a Canadian cavalry regiment (now an armored unit). The photograph was probably taken at the 1938 Pacific International Livestock Exposition in Portland, where soldiers from the regiment performed drills. The man is unidentified.

A photograph of the same man and horse, image No. 374N1184, probably taken on a different day than this image, was published in the Oregon Journal on Saturday, October 8, 1938.
