Peters, Aurelia V. (Blain)

Aurelia V. Blain, born December 1849 in Oregon, to Rev. Wilson and Elizabeth Blain. They lived in Linn City, where her father was an editor and Presbyterian preacher. She married Winfield Scott Peters, who was a freight clerk in Albany, on December 7, 1875. Their children were Wilson Webb and Ethlind. Aurelia died in Oakland, California, in 1924, and was buried in Riverside Cemetery in Albany.

Roundtree, Mary Adeline (Ferguson)

Mary "Polly" Adeline Ferguson, born about 1795 in Virginia, of Scottish descent. She married Turner Richardson Roundtree on January 12, 1815, in Hardin County, Kentucky. They had seven children, among them: James Harrison, Mary Turner, John B., Perry O., Andrew J., and Martin D. In 1830, the family moved to Illinois, and came to Oregon in 1852, quickly moving to Washington Territory within a year. She died February 11, 1880, in Boistfort, Lewis County, Washington.

Foster, Louisa "Laura" (Burkhart) Thompson

The second wife of John Hearst Foster, pioneer of 1847. Louisa Matilda Burkhart (born 1836 in IL) was first married (July 9, 1855) to David M. Thompson (1833-1879), a harness maker, and had two children: Harriet "Hettie" Louise (m. Templeton) and Edward Lewis Thompson. She lived most of her life in Albany, Oregon.

Johnson, John Wesley

John Wesley Johnson, pioneer of 1858, born on March 22, 1836. He was connected with high schools of Portland, then later became the first president of the University of Oregon, in Eugene. He married Helen Elizabeth Adams on July 3, 1865, in Astoria.

Millard, Levi C.

Levi C. Millard, born about 1846 in New Jersey, the son of Dr. Justin Millard. He reportedly joined the Multnomah Engine Co. No. 2 in Portland on January 7, 1857, as a volunteer firefighter. He was a wholesale liquor dealer in Portland in 1870, co-owning the firm of Millard & VanSchuyver, who were successors to Ladd, Reed & Co.

Grim, John Walker

John Walker Grim, born June 16, 1820 in Ohio, pioneer to Oregon in 1847. Married Frances Emeline Geer and lived in Aurora, Oregon. In 1849, he became a member of the first territorial legislature of Oregon; in 1850, he
became county commissioner and acted as probate judge, and was reelected in

  1. He also served as State Senator in 1858-66 and 1878-82. He died near Aurora on January 18, 1892.

Ferry, Clinton P.

Clinton P. Ferry, founder of the Ferry Museum in Tacoma, Washington. He was a nephew of Hon. Elisha P. Ferry, a governor of Washington Territory. He was also the nephew of G. W. Ewing. He arrived in Portland in 1858 and stayed until 1868, when he relocated to Tacoma.

Morgan, Amos Hoyt

Amos Hoyt Morgan, born December 15, 1836, in Elmira, New York. He came to Salem, where he married Malinda (Minnie) Emily Boon on February 22, 1865. They resided in Portland for about 30 years before his death in March of 1897. He was in the wholesale commission business with Reuben Weeks, and also served as the Collector of Internal Revenue in his district from 1874 to 1879. They had two sons, Fred P. and Frank, and a daughter, Lena (McClement).

Grim, Frances Emeline (Geer)

Frances Emeline (Geer) Grim, born in Ohio in 1821 and the daughter of Joseph Cary and Mary (Johnson) Geer, pioneer to Oregon in 1847. Married John Walker Grim and lived in Aurora, Oregon.

Guthrie, Reverend Stephen

Rev. Stephen Guthrie, pioneer of 1852 from Illinois. He was the first minister of the Christian Church in the Puget Sound Country, in 1853, and was known as 'Father Guthrie.' He lived in Chambers Prairie.

Miller, Reverend Richard

Rev. Richard Miller, Baptist minister, who was born in Virginia in 1798. He emigrated from Missouri to Oregon in 1847 and settled on a farm near Yamhill. He suffered from poor health for half of his life, which interfered with his preaching. His wife, Nancy, died in 1863, and he followed suit in 1878.
