Maynard Moore being rescued from a platform after falling from a broken scaffold at the Portland Drive-in, at 9727 N.E. Union Avenue. Moore is in a litter, which is on top of a ladder. Several people are on a platform, which can be seen under the broken pieces of a scaffold. A sign above the group reads “Grand Re-Opening Friday, Many Improvements, Big Picture” (negative 1 of 5).

Portrait of two women standing next to each other. Both are wearing hats and holding handbags. The woman on the left, actress Edwina Booth, is wearing a fur coat. The woman on the right, Dorothy Ford of Portland, is wearing a coat and a fur stole and muffs. The photograph was taken in Portland on April 8, 1932, after Booth’s arrival in Portland. According to a story in the April 8 edition of the Oregon Journal, headlined “Movieland Trio Of Pretty Girls to Take Part in Ball,” Booth and two other actresses came to Portland to participate in the Eagles’ “Movie Ball,” a charity event. Dorothy Ford had been selected as queen of the ball. See related image No. 371N1406. Faint discoloration in the center of the image is due to deterioration of the negative.

A cropped version of this photograph was published on Page 5, Section 2, of the Oregon Journal on Sunday, March 29, 1936, under the headline “Pouring Third Floor Block at Ward’s.” The photograph had the following caption: “Building activity is at high gear on this $750,000 project at Montgomery Ward & Co. mail order and retail center at N. W. 27th avenue and Vaughn Street, as 150 men push the nine-story addition into the air.” The photograph accompanied a story headlined “Montgomery Ward Project On Schedule.” Image note: The text “Mont - Ward 3/26/36” is written on the negative and is faintly visible in the lower right corner of the image.

Photograph showing eight Portland Gas & Coke Company employees standing in a row, facing left, and smiling. Six of the eight men are holding first aid kits bearing their names. The names on the first three kits from left are “Pat Conner,” “J. D. Barnicoat,” and F. V. Riley.” The names on the first three kits from right are “F. R. Downing,” H. M. Meyers,” and “F. LaMear.” The two men at center are unidentified but may be John Gunst and R. L. Gear. The photograph was probably taken in June 1942, when the eight men graduated from advanced first-aid training. All eight graduates were awarded arm insignia, and the six vehicle operators in the group also received first aid kits. This advertising photograph depicts a group of bike messengers seated on a "Joe's Heavy Service" model bicycle, demonstrating it's robust frame. The owner of Joe's Bicycle and Repair Shop, Joseph Brown, is posed on the bike with someone seated on his shoulders. The photograph is signed "Sowell photo" on the bottom-left corner, indicating the photo may have been taken by Leo Simon, who operated Sowell Studio in 1925. Sowell Studio was a commercial photography studio located in Portland, Oregon.
