Hogue, Harry Wildey

Harry Wildey Hogue, son of Harvey Alexander Hogue, and nephew of Charles Park Hogue. Harry was born Feb. 6, 1865, in The Dalles, Oregon, and died March 25, 1924. He was a lawyer in Portland.

Hogue, Harvey Alexander

Harvey A. Hogue, born July 6, 1832, in Princeton, Indiana, to James P. and Sarah (Finney). He was the father of Harry Wildey Hogue. He died in Winthrop Beach, Massachusetts, on August 5, 1902.

Noted on reverse: James P. Hogue (b. March 15, 1807, Athens, Tenn.; d. May 1, 1871, Portland, Or.) He married Sarah Montgomery (Finney) on Feb. 5, 1829 at Princeton, Ind. She was born April 19, 1810 and died Feb. 1, 1898, in Albany, Or. They left McDonogh Co., Illinois in April 1853 with teams for Oregon. Arrived August 1853 and settled in Linn County near Shedd.

Hogue, Sarah Lavina (Abrams)

Sarah Lavina (Abrams), who married Harvey Alexander Hogue in 1861 in Multnomah County, Oregon. She was born on Aug. 25, 1843, in Gainsville, Alabama. She was the daughter of William Penn and Sarah Abrams, who were residing in Portland in 1849. W. P. Abrams was an early deacon of the Congregational Church.

Hirsch, Edward

Born in Wurtemburg, Germany, in 1836, Edward emigrated to the United States in 1855. He and his brother, Solomon, came to the West via the Isthmus of Panama in 1858. The brothers were merchants in a number of locations in Oregon over many years. He was a State Treasurer from 1878 to 1887 and served as a Senator from Marion County from 1890 to 1894. He died in Salem in 1909.

Hines, Rev. Gustavus

Reverend Gustavus Hines, Methodist missionary, was born in Herkimer County, New York on September 6, 1809. In 1839, Hines was appointed a missionary to Oregon and traveled on the ship Lausanne with his wife, Lydia. Initially, Hines was assigned to assist Jason Lee in exploring the Umpqua Valley for a possible mission site. He spent the remainder of his missionary service, however, at the Willamette Mission. In 1843, Hines was one of the founders of the Provisional Government of Oregon. He returned to the East by ship in 1845-1846. Gustavus Hines died on December 9, 1873.

Himes, Judson Wickliffe

Judson Wickliffe Himes, pioneer of 1853 and Justice of the Peace. He was born in Lafayette, Stark County, Illinois, March 9, 1850. He crossed the plains with his parents and learned the trade of a baker. He was a woodsman for a few years, then a cruiser. Later he became a Justice of the Peace, school clerk, and real estate and insurance agent. He died August 14, 1916, at Elma, Washington.

Gussie Hines of Columbus, Washington (now Maryhill, Washington); died at the age of 9. She was the daughter of Gustavus K. Hines.

Reverend William Helm, born in Virginia in 1800, and pioneer to Oregon in 1845, with his family. They established a donation land claim in Champoeg County in 1846 and remained in Marion County.
