He is wearing a white lab coat and using a pipette to measure a light colored liquid, which is likely milk, in a small glass vial. Several advertisements for milk products are visible in the background. This photograph was published in the Oregon Sunday Journal on April 25, 1920.

Mapleton Grange display, Oregon State Fair

A display of produce and canned goods at the Oregon State Fair in Salem, Oregon. Rows of jars containing produce are displayed on a tiered stand along with plates of apples and pears and pans full of what appear to be various grains. Dried ears of corn and sheaves of grain are arranged on the back wall and around the top of the booth, and embroidered linens are hung on a side wall. A sign hanging from the top of the booth reads, "Maplewood Grange 662."
