Attached to the bugle is a banner with the letters “LSH,” for Lord Strathcona’s Horse, a Canadian cavalry regiment (now an armored unit). The photograph was probably taken at the 1938 Pacific International Livestock Exposition in Portland, where soldiers from the regiment performed drills. The man is unidentified.
