Shively Opera house auction, Oregon City

People stand around an abandoned stage at the Shively Opera House in Oregon City. The contents of the building were sold at auction in 1954 before it was later demolished. The walls above and around the stage feature damaged paintings. Photographs from this series were published in the Oregon Journal on Thursday, August 26, 1954 (negative 3 of 12).

Photograph of Willamette Falls in Oregon City taken by Lorenzo Lorain circa 1857. The photograph is taken from the edge of the Willamette River looking upriver to the waterfall. There are several structures around the falls on both sides of the river. The typed caption glued below the bristol board on the front of the photograph reads, "Falls of the Willamette River at Oregon City. About 1857 or 1858. Taken by Lt. Lorenzo Lorain, U.S.A. Donated to Oregon Historical Society, 1946, by S. H. Lorain, Albany, Oregon."

Manuscript that recollects when Governor Clarence D. Martin called out Portland's mayor at the time, Mayor Carson, on the pollution being dumped into the Willamette River. The document goes on to point out how this is a violation of state law. Portland was not the only area affected.
