A cropped version of this photograph was published on the front page of the Oregon Journal on Sunday, July 2, 1933, under the headline “Signing on the Dotted Line.” The photograph had the following caption: “Thereby completing the official routine of becoming mayor of Portland. Thus Mayor Carson took full grip of the reins and began his four-year term Saturday as mayor of the City of Roses, succeeding George L. Baker.
