Nesmith, Thomas

Thomas Nesmith, who was born in New Hampshire, October 5, 1810, and was the brother of James Willis Nesmith, Oregon Senator. Thomas married Rocse North on March 27, 1838, and lived in the Cincinnati, Ohio, area. He died November 19, 1885.

Nesmith, Velina Pauline

Probably Velina Pauline Nesmith, born Sept. 4, 1855, to James W. and Lucinda Pauline (Goff) Nesmith. She married William Markland Molson, a Portland brewer, in 1882, and eventually relocated to Montreal with her husband and stepsons. She died in Polk County on July 17, 1937.

Nickell, Ella Lamiza (Prim)

Ella Lamiza Prim, daughter of Paine Page and Theresa M. Prim, born February 3, 1858. She married Charles Nickell in 1881 in Jackson County, Oregon, but died on June 8, 1889. They had two daughters, Bessie and Marie.

Love, Captain Lewis

Capt. Lewis Love (1818-1903), born in Chautauqua Co., NY. He married Nancy M. Griffiths in Marion Co., Illinois, in 1836. They came across the plains in 1849 and settled in what would become North Portland, near the Columbia River. He was a pioneer industrialist and land developer in Multnomah and Clark Counties, as well as a farmer, gristmill operator, lumber manufacturer, and ferry operator.

Nancy M. Griffith (1820-1892), who married Captain Lewis Love, and came to Oregon in 1849. They settled a claim up in what would become North Portland, near the Columbia River.

Harriett "Hattie" McNary, one of the daughters of Hugh L. and Mary Margaret (Claggett) McNary, born in Oregon, in 1865. She died in 1879, the same year as her mother.

Joseph Lafayette Meek (1810-1875) was a sheriff and U.S. Marshal. He was a trader and trapper for the American Fur Company from 1829-1840. He settled a donation land claim near Hillsboro in 1840. He was active in political and civic affairs in the years before statehood. He participated at the Champoeg meeting. He was a provisional legislator from 1846 to 1847. He participated in the fight again the Indians who attacked the Whitman Mission and served in the Yakima Indian war. He was married three times and had five children.

James Bush Nesmith, the seventh child of James W. and Lucinda Pauline (Goff) Nesmith, born October 31, 1856, in Polk County, Oregon. He married Charlotte Orr in 1884. He farmed in Rickreall and they had one daughter, Pauline, born about 1885. He died October 8, 1853.

Edward Hamilton, born in Culpepper County, Virginia, was Captain of the Volunteers in the Mexican War (1846-1848), Secretary of the Oregon Territory (1850-1853) and a Multnomah County judge for eight years.

Killin, Judge Benton

Benton Killin (1842-1905), who came overland from Iowa in 1845, was a lawyer and judge in Oregon City. After serving for three years in the 1st Oregon Cavalry (1862-65), he married Harriet Burnett Hoover in 1873. He also worked as the Superintendent for Clackamas County Schools and was a Trustee of Pacific University. He died in Portland on May 26, 1905.

Elisha A. Livingston (1842-1884), born in Missouri, who came to Oregon in 1851. He was married to Rachel R. Newman (b. 1847), and was a carpenter. He also served as Deputy Assessor in Douglas County and had a farm in the Roseburg area.
