Great throngs of Catholics and non-Catholics jammed the edifice beyond its capacity to witness sad ceremonies for one of America’s most noted leaders of the church.” A credit line attributes the photograph to “Oregon Journal Webfoot Weekly,” the Journal’s newsreel service.
