The photograph was taken at Sixth and Morrison in Portland on Monday, May 16, 1921, during a reception for Dean and others who were in town to film a movie. A cropped version of this photograph was published on Page 2 of the Oregon Journal on Tuesday, May 17, 1921, with the headline “Screen Beauty Wins Hearty Welcome.” The photograph had the following caption: “Priscilla Dean, noted motion picture player, was officially welcomed to Portland before thousands of spectators, who, on Monday, saw Mayor Baker present to the star the city’s floral master key. In the picture are Miss Dtan [sic], Mayor Baker, and Harley James, Miss Dean’s camera-man.” The photograph accompanied a story headlined “Priscilla Dean is Enthusiastic Over Local Reception.” See related image Nos. 373G0005, 373G0008, 379G0191, and 379G0192.
