Worker with clock, Albina Engine & Machine Works, Portland

Photograph showing an unidentified worker standing in front of a clock at the Albina Engine & Machine Works shipyard in Portland. The clock is mounted on the front of a wooden box at the edge of a building overhang or balcony, and the worker is standing on an object outside a frame to reach the clock. He is facing the clock and has one hand on the side of the box. In the background, a sign on the wall of the building lists the opening and closing hours of the shipyard lunch room. The text “17X” is written on the negative and is visible in the lower left corner of the image. Information based on the following unverified note written on the negative sleeve: “Albina shipbuilding / Sub chaser / 11/25/44.”

Tex Rankin holding watch and clock after return from air race

Photograph of pilot Tex Rankin on September 22, 1928, after he returned to Portland from an air race from New York to Los Angeles. A cropped version of this photograph and image No. 371N6150 were published on Page 3 of the Oregon Journal on September 23, 1928. This photograph had the following caption: “Rankin with a bronze clock and wrist watch presented him at his homecoming.” The photographs accompanied a story, headlined “Rankin and Jinx Cat Back Home; Everybody Glad.” The Journal reported that Rankin had placed fifth in the race. Photograph of Portland City Commissioner Bigelow presenting pilot Tex Rankin with a bronze clock on September 22, 1928, after Rankin’s return from a national air race from New York to Los Angeles. On September 23, 1928, the Oregon Journal published a Page 3 story about Rankin’s return, headlined “Rankin and Jinx Cat Back Home; Everybody Glad.” The Journal reported that Rankin placed fifth in the race. B.W. Cobb stands in front of a wall lined with shelves holding clocks, at his repair shop at 220 S.W. Alder Street in Portland. He has the front of one clock open, which he is winding with a key to adjust for daylight savings time. A similar photograph was published in the Oregon Journal on Sunday, April 24, 1949 (negative 1 of 2).

An unidentified fire fighter, repairing a toy clock to be donated to children in need. He holds the clock one hand and a paintbrush in the other, while smoking a cigar. An antique fire engine can be seen in the background (negative 1 of 5). Original sleeve title: Fireman readying toys for Christmas - "Fireman Fixin for Santa Claus."

A blind student at Vestal Elementary School, wearing a checkered dress and standing at the front of a classroom. She has both hands on a paper clock face, which is resting against a chalkboard. This photograph was published in the Oregon Journal on Sunday, November 1, 1953 (negative 3 of 3).
