Photograph of an unidentified man on the seat of a wagon hitched to a team of six horses or ponies. The wagon is stopped on a lawn outside a building with the word “OFFICE” on the roof, probably at the Multnomah County Fairgrounds in Gresham, Oregon. Painted on the side of the wagon are the words: “Mrs F. B. Bunn’s Stable’s. [sic] / Portland Ore.” The photograph may have been taken at the Multnomah County Fair. Also see image No. 374N0733.

Photograph of Mr. and Mrs. McCleave of Stockton, California, sitting in a four-wheeled wagon hitched to a horse named Buttermilk, part of their troupe of 22 horses. A sign on the side of the wagon has the text “Multnomah Co. Fair / At Gresham / Aug. 22-28.” The photograph was probably taken at the fairgrounds in Gresham. The number 9 is written on the negative and is visible in the lower left corner of the image.

Covered wagons in commemorative pageant in Meacham, Oregon

Photograph showing covered wagons pulled by oxen and horses traveling in a pageant in Meacham, Oregon on July 3, 1923. The pageant, attended by President Warren G. Harding and First Lady Florence Harding, was part of events commemorating the anniversary of the first wagon train crossing of the Blue Mountains. The pageant depicted people and events in the history of whites’ arrival and settlement in Oregon. The Oregon Journal published a story about the commemoration and the Hardings’ Meacham visit, headlined “President Dedicates Oregon Trail in Midst of Colorful Setting,” on the front page of the July 3, 1923 edition. Rose Festival parade float

A Portland Rose Festival float for Meadow-Land Dairy, at Mulnomah Stadium in Portland. A cart, decorated with roses and a milk bottle, is being pulled by six horses, which are standing next to people wearing “Meadow-Land Dairy” uniforms. The ivy-covered clubhouse for the Multnomah Athletic Club can be seen in the background (negative 18 of 27).

Pendleton Round-Up show

People at an arena during the Pendleton Round-Up. Several indigenous Americans stand at the edge of the arena, as a line of covered wagons pass by. Pendleton Round-Up parade

A parade for the 1952 Pendleton Round-Up, proceeding down South Main Street. Steers are pulling covered wagons, followed by majorettes in the distance. Spectators can be seen at either side of the street, over which several flags, and a “Lees Rider” advertisement hang. On the right side of the street is the Temple Hotel (negative 3 of 12).
