Scope and content

Photograph showing basketball players during a game between the Vanport Sheriffs and the Albina Hellships. The players are watching the ball, which is in the air above the basket just after a shot. One player, No. 26 for Albina, is in mid-jump. The Hellships were sponsored by the Albina Engine & Machine Works shipyard in Portland. The note “Albina shipbuilding / Basketball / 12/11/43, 1/7/44 [sic]” is written on the negative sleeve. The photograph was probably taken in 1943 or 1944, but the exact date is unconfirmed. Image note: Marks on negative at top center.
