Jenny Munezero was born in Burundi in 1993. Shortly after she was born, the Burundian Civil War began and her parents fled to Tanzania, leaving her behind. When she was two months old, her home was attacked; Munezero was the only survivor. Neighbors brought her to her parents in the Kanembwa refugee camp in Tanzania. Munezero's mother died the day after giving birth to Munezero's younger sister, and her father remarried a few years later. In 2007, her family was resettled in Beaverton, Oregon. In 2018, she earned a bachelor's degree in business management from Portland State University. In 2019, she and Innocent Irakoze were married.

Mashimango, Wilondja D. (Wilondja Denis), 1999-

Wilondja Denis Mashimango was born in Uvira, Democratic Republic of Congo, in 1999. The next year, his family fled to Tanzania, and he grew up in the Nyarugusu refugee camp. In 2015, his family came to the United States and settled in Portland, Oregon. He studied criminology and criminal justice at Portland State University.

Luna, Liliana, 1990-

Liliana Luna was born in Mexico City, Mexico, in 1990. She grew up in Michoacán and Nuevo Laredo, and in 2005 her family came to Portland, Oregon. In 2008, her status as an undocumented immigrant prevented her from pursuing a bachelor's degree. She took classes at Portland Community College and was elected student body president. She was active with Oregon Dream Activists, which advocates for undocumented immigrants. After President Barack Obama enacted the 2012 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy, she enrolled at Portland State University. In 2014, she earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, and in 2019, she earned a master's degree in marriage and family therapy/counseling. She served as Retention and Multicultural Center Coordinator at Portland Community College beginning in 2014, and in 2021 she became development and executive director at Esperanza Wellness Center in Cornelius, Oregon.

Anne Johnson was born in Nairobi, Kenya, in 1978. In 2001, she relocated to Portland, Oregon, to attend Portland Community College. After graduating with a degree in accounting from the University of Phoenix, she worked as a certified public accountant for a few years. Pettus, Drew D. (Drew Douglas), 1946-

Drew Douglas Pettus was born in Long Beach, California, in 1946. When he was twelve years old, his parents separated and he came with his mother to Bellingham, Washington. He attended Western Washington University in Bellingham for one year, then left school to work on a project for U.S. Representative Lloyd Meeds. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1971. In 1970, he and Mary Catherine May were married. In 1974, he earned a degree from the Northwestern School of Law, then entered into private law practice in Bellingham until 1976, when he joined Meeds' staff as assistant counsel for the House Rules Committee. He then served as chief of staff for Meeds' successor, U.S. Representative Al Swift. Pettus worked primarily on immigration and trade legislation, and helped to author the 1980 Northwest Power Act. In 1989, he returned to private law practice in Washington, D.C., and focused on immigration and environmental law. In 1994, he returned to Bellingham and began his own law firm, which focused on immigration law.

Kye, Joe (Joseph Hyon), 1987-

Joseph Hyon Kye was born in Seoul, South Korea, in 1987. When he was six years old, his family relocated to the United States, first living in Boston, Massachusetts, before settling in Seattle, Washington, a few years later. In 2009, he earned a bachelor's degree in American cultural studies from Yale University. He taught English in San Francisco, California, and in Redmond, Washington, then decided to pursue a career as a musician. In 2012, he and Natasha K. Kye were married, and the couple settled in Sacramento, California. In 2016, they relocated to Portland, Oregon. Kye gave music lessons through Brave Youth Orchestras and played shows with his band, Joe Kye and the Givers.

Susheela Jayapal was born in Coimbatore, India, in 1962. Her family moved several times, until they settled in Jakarta, Indonesia, where Jayapal completed her high school education. She then attended Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, and in 1983, she earned a bachelor's degree in economics. She then worked at Goldman Sachs in New York City for two years. In 1985, she relocated to Chicago, Illinois, where she attended the University of Chicago Law School. After earning her degree in 1988, she practiced law in San Francisco, California. Also in 1988, she and Bradley Stuart Miller were married; they later had two children, and divorced in 2014. In 1994, she and her family relocated to Portland, Oregon, and she worked as a lawyer for Adidas until 2000. She worked for various non-profit organizations, and in 2018, she was elected a Multnomah County commissioner from District 2, becoming the first Indian American to be elected to public office in Oregon.

Farhia Ibrahim was born in Mogadishu, Somalia, in 1995. When she was 7 years old, her family relocated to Egypt, where her father was working. A few years later, her father left to find work in the Netherlands, while the rest of the family remained in Egypt. Her family applied for refugee status in the United States, and in 2010 they were relocated to Oregon. They lived in Portland and Salem before settling in Hillsboro. Ibrahim attended Portland Community College, and in 2021, she earned a bachelor's degree from Portland State University.

Hursh, Gitanjali J. (Gitanjali Jacqueline), 1973-

Gitanjali "Anju" Jacqueline Hursh, aka DJ Anjali, was born in Oregon City, Oregon, in 1973. During her childhood, her family moved frequently. She attended Portland State University. In 2000, she and her partner, Stephen Strausbaugh, formed the duo DJ Anjali and the Incredible Kid. Together, they founded the monthly ANDAZ dance party, which is the longest-running Desi dance party in the world.

Anna Giurgiev was born in Lapus, Romania, in 1958. In 1977, she and Sava Giurgiev were married; they later had two children. In 1984, Sava Giurgiev fled to the United States, and in 1986, the family was reunited in Chicago, Illinois. In 1992, Anna Giurgiev earned a nursing degree from the College of Lake County in Grayslake, Illinois. In 1997, the family moved to Florida, and in the early 2000s, they settled in the Portland, Oregon, area. She worked as a nurse and in payroll.

Gebreamlak, Milen, 2001-

Milen Gebreamlak was born in Asmara, Eritrea, in 2001. When she was eight years old, her family fled during war with Ethiopia. The family spent a year in refugee camps in Ethiopia, then settled in Addis Ababa. In 2014, the family received refugee status in the United States, and they soon settled in Portland, Oregon. Gebreamlak co-founded the Women's Empowerment Club at Reynolds High School and was involved with Africa House and the Multnomah County Youth Commission.

Chen, Ruby, 1985-

Ying-Ju "Ruby" Chen was born in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1985. She began studying music at age 3, and began participating in violin competitions in the fourth grade. When she was 12, her family moved to Toronto, Canada, so that she could pursue her violin studies. She graduated from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, and later earned a master's degree from the Yale School of Music. In 2011, she became a violinist in the Oregon Symphony in Portland, Oregon. She also taught violin as a private instructor.

Litchfield, Jim W. (James William), 1948-

James William Litchfield was born in Yakima, Washington, in 1948. He attended Yakima Valley College, then transferred to the University of Washington, where he earned a bachelor's degree in engineering. In 1973, he earned a master's degree in engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He then returned to Washington and worked for Battelle. He was power planning director for the Northwest Power Planning Council, now known as the Northwest Power and Conservation Council, from 1981 to 1992. After leaving the council, he started a consulting company, the Litchfield Consulting Group. He retired in 2020.

Hemmingway, Roy H. (Leroy H.), 1946-

Leroy H. Hemmingway was born in Evanston, Illinois, in 1946. In 1968, he earned a degree from Stanford University. In 1972, he earned a law degree from Yale University. He was involved with the Oregon Environmental Council during the early 1970s, and in 1976, he worked as a lawyer for the Oregon Public Utility Commission. He served as deputy public utility commissioner under Commissioners Charlie Davis and John J. Lobdell, during both the administrations of governors Bob Straub and Vic Atiyeh. He represented Oregon on the Northwest Power Planning Council, now known as the Northwest Power and Conservation Council, from 1981 to 1986. From 1995 to 2001, he was a policy advisor to Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber. From 2001 to 2003, he served as chair of the Oregon Public Utility Commission. From 2003 to 2006, he served as New Zealand Energy Commissioner. He then returned to Portland, Oregon, and worked as an energy consultant.

Saxvik, Bob (Robert William), 1930-2016

Robert William Saxvik was born in Spring Grove, Minnesota, in 1930. His family moved to Iowa during World War II. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955, and flew 24 missions as a B-29 flight crew member during the Korean War. In 1958, he and Marilyn Anne DeMers were married; they later had three children. In 1959, he earned a bachelor's degree in education from Western Washington State College. From 1961 to 1978, he was vice president and general manager for KBAR Radio in Burley, Idaho. During his time at the radio station, he also served in the Idaho State Senate as a Democrat from 1971 to 1976. From 1978 to 1981, he was chief of staff to Idaho Governor John V. Evans. He then represented Idaho on the Northwest Power Planning Council, now known as the Northwest Power and Conservation Council, from 1981 to 1996. In 2002, he moved to Portland, Oregon. He died in 2016.
