Argow, Claire Angevin, 1903-1997

Claire Angevin Argow, nee Claire Ferisse Angevin, was born in Lloyd, New York, in 1903, and grew up in Boston. She earned a bachelor's degree from Vassar College in New York, and a master's degree from the Simmons School of Social Work in Boston. She attended Yale, where she was one of the first three women to earn a law degree there. She worked as a social worker in New England, as assistant director for the Survey of Connecticut Prisons, and with the National Society for the Prevention of Crime in New York City. In 1935, she and Walter W. Argow were married; they later had one child. The couple lived in Florida for a few years, and then relocated to Oregon in 1945. Argow soon became the executive director of the Oregon Prison Association, and she worked towards many prison reforms in the state. She died in 1997.

Armentrout, Jane Myers

Jane Myers Armentrout, nee Jane Agnes Myers, was born in Portland, Oregon, in 1916. She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon, and later earned a master's degree in biochemistry. She was a bacteriology lab technician for the Oregon State Board of Health, taught biology and English at St. Helen's Hall, and was a hematology research assistant at the University of Oregon Medical School. In 1940, she and Herbert Leppen Armentrout were married; they later had three children. In the 1950s, she organized a campaign for polio shots through the Wilson High School Parent Teacher Association. She died in 1999.

Ashcraft, Isabelle K. (Isabelle Kidd), 1901-1992

Isabelle Kidd Ashcraft, nee Isabelle Janet Kidd, was born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1901. A few years later, she moved with her family to Portland, Oregon. She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon. In 1923, she and Forrest E. Littlefield were married; they later had two children, then divorced. From 1937 to 1949, she taught math at Grant High School in Portland, and later taught part-time at Portland State University. In 1949, she and Lyle J. Ashcraft were married. She was active in several Portland civic and arts organizations, including the Portland Civic Theatre and the Portland Arts Commission. She died in 1992.

Atiyeh, Victor

Victor "Vic" George Atiyeh was born in Portland, Oregon, in 1923. He met Delores Hewitt while a student at Washington High School. They later married in 1944 and had two children. He attended the University of Oregon, but dropped out after the death of his father in order to take over the family carpet business, Atiyeh Brothers. He was a Republican politician and represented Washington County in the Oregon House of Representatives from 1959 to 1964, and in the Oregon Senate from 1965 to 1979. He was governor of Oregon from 1979 to 1987. He died in 2014.
