Doris Avshalomov, nee Felde, was born in Portland, Oregon, in 1920. In 1943, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Reed College. That same year, she and Jacob David Avshalomov were married; they later had two children. After graduating from college, she worked as an electrician in the Kaiser shipyard in Vancouver, Washington, for a little under a year. She then moved to New York and attended the Eastman School of Music. After the end of World War II, she briefly worked for the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. Both she and Jacob Avshalomov worked at Columbia University in New York. She returned to Oregon in 1954, and taught at Catlin Gabel School for five years, then taught for Portland Public Schools. She was a poet and printmaker. She died in 2020.

Kernan H. Bagley was born in Portland, Oregon, in 1936. Shortly afterward, his family moved to a farm in a rural area outside Portland, then called Peach Mountain. He met Shirlene Peacher at an NAACP meeting and they married in 1954. That same year, he began studying at Portland State University, but he dropped out in 1956 to support his young family. He later attended Multnomah School of the Bible (now Multnomah University) from 1964 to 1965. He began working in law enforcement, serving as Multnomah deputy sheriff from 1965 to 1976. He became deputy U.S. marshal for the District of Oregon in 1976, and then was appointed supervisor deputy U.S. marshal for the District of Oregon in 1981. Since 1993, he has served as U.S. marshal to the Virgin Islands.

Louise M. Bailey, nee Bichsel, was born in Snohomish, Washington, in 1917. In 1935, she and Nelson W. Bailey were married; they later had one child. In 1942, she moved to Portland, Oregon, for a job opportunity. She later married a second time to Frank Noriega. Bailey died in 1995.

Baker, Fred C. (Frederick Charles), 1887-1981

Frederick Charles Baker was born in Bay City, Michigan, in 1887. In 1892, his family relocated to Oregon. He studied architecture at the University of Oregon. He became one of the few lighting designers to draw designs in full detail, rather than beginning with a model. In 1912, Baker opened his first shop, the Fred C. Baker Lighting Company, in Portland, and the next year was hired to design the lighting in the Pittock Mansion. In 1929, he and Inez Allan were married. Baker designed the lighting in many buildings, including the Oregon State Capitol and Timberline Lodge. He was still actively involved with the business when he died in 1981.

Katherine “Kay” Baker was born in Oswego (now known as Lake Oswego), Oregon, in 1914. During World War II, she worked as a welder and a burner for the Oregon Shipbuilding Corporation and for Commercial Iron Works in Portland, Oregon. After the war, she worked in a grocery store and at Precision Cast Parts. She died in 1989.

Mary Catherine Baker, nee Malarkey, was born in Portland, Oregon, in 1910. She married twice; her first marriage was in 1932, to Howard Milton Wall, with whom she later had four children. He died in 1968, and she remarried in 1972, to Howard Joseph Baker. Mary Baker died in 1985.
