He was a lawyer for Bailey & Hoffman in Eugene, Oregon, 1953-1967. He was appointed Lane County Circuit Judge by Governor Tom McCall, 1967, retiring to senior status in 1989.

Edwin J. Peterson (1930- ) studied music at the University of Oregon, graduating in 1951. He wanted to become a member of Congress, and attended the 1952 Republican National Convention. After serving in the Air Force and attending law school at the University of Oregon, however, he abandoned his political ambitions, and instead joined the Portland, Oregon law firm Tooze, Kerr, Peterson, Marshall & Shenker. In 1979, Governor Vic Atiyeh appointed Peterson to the Oregon Supreme Court. In 1981, he was elected Chief Justice, a position he held until 1991. During his time on the Oregon Supreme Court, he focused on improving the efficiency of courts and to elimate racial and ethnic biases in the courts. For his work, he was awarded the Americare Juicature Society's Herbert Harley Award in 1992. Peterson resigned from the court at the end of 1993. He is now a Distinguished Jurist in Residence at Willamette University.

Jeffrey C. Dobbins (1967- ) graduated from Duke Univeristy School of Law with a JD in 1994. He began his legal career clerking for Chief Judge Abner Mikva and Judge David S. Tatel for the US Court of Appeal for the DC Circuit Court, and then for Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens. He then worked as an attorney for the Environment & Natural Resources Division at the US Department of Justice, from 1996-2001, then as an attorney for Perkins Coie LLP in Portland, Oregon, from 2002-2006. He has since been Assistant Professor of Law at the Willamette University College of Law.
