Elise Fleischner Wendel, nee Elise Clark Fleischner, was born in Portland, Oregon, in 1905. Her father, I.N. Fleischner, was a partner in the Fleischner, Mayer & Co. department store. She attended Wellesley College. In 1927, she and Harold Fox Wendel, president of the Lipman, Wolfe & Co. were married. Harold F. Wendel had two children from a previous marriage, and the couple later had one child together. She was involved with the Girl Scouts of America for most of her adult life. She died in 1986.

Smith, Richard F. (Richard Frederick), 1911-1988

Richard Frederick Smith was born in Bedford, Pennsylvania, in 1911. In 1918, his family moved to Salem, Ohio. In 1933, he entered the Civilian Conservation Corps, where he developed a love for forestry work. He studied forestry at Ohio State University from 1939 to 1941, then planned to transfer. His education was interrupted while he served in the Navy during World War II. In 1946, he and Ruth Lane Troxel were married; they later had two children. In 1948, he graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in forestry. The next year, he became the county forester for Clark County, Washington. He developed a forestry management technique of individual tree selection, demonstrating his ideas by buying and managing his own tract of timberland near Sandy, Oregon. He died in 1988.

Ann Louise Mussey was born in Illinois in 1950. She attended Grinnell College in Iowa. In 1971, she came to Portland, Oregon, and was involved in the city's lesbian community. In 2001, she earned a doctorate in U.S. history with a specialty in women's history from Rutgers University in New Jersey. She was a professor of Women's Studies at Portland State University.

Sister John Mary Lane was born Kathleen Lane in Spokane, Washington, in 1903. She earned a doctorate at St. Mary's Academy, Notre Dame, Indiana. She taught high school in Washington and was principal of St. Mary's Academy from 1943 to 1949. She later was a professor of scripture and theology at Marylhurst University. In 1978 she was awarded the Aubrey R. Waztek Award by Lewis & Clark College. In 1994 she created the Sister John Mary Lane Lectureship Series. She died in 2000.

Rose Klara Thomson, nee Stricker, was born in Davos, Switzerland, in 1913. Her family immigrated to the United States and in 1917, they settled in Beaverton, Oregon. She worked in the Kaiser shipyards in Portland, Oregon, during World War II. In 1938, she married Robert L. Leaming; they later had one child and divorced. She married Thurlow Weed in 1944; Weed adopted her first child and they later had two together. Weed died in 1954. She married Earl Thomson in 1980; Thomson died in 1999. Rose Klara Thomson died in 2006.

Marie Gleason was born in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1894. In 1914, she relocated to Los Angeles, California, then moved to Portland, Oregon, in 1917. In 1942, she joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and began working as an electrician in the Kaiser shipyards in Portland. She was forced off the job after the end of World War II.

Mary Teresa Bucher, nee Grey, was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, in 1918. She was married after high school, but divorced soon after. In 1937, she came to Portland, Oregon. In 1942, she become a welder in the Kaiser shipyards after attending welding school for half a year. In 1943, she and Sherman Datus Bucher were married. She raised six children and was also briefly known as Mary Teresa Berney. She died in 2013.
